INSCI and eDocs to Deliver Internet Bill Presentment and Payment Solutions to High Volume Producers of Bills and Statements

WESTBOROUGH, MA - November 11, 1997 . . . . INSCI Corp (NASDAQ: INSI), a leading provider of software for high volume digital document repositories and electronic commerce document management solutions, and eDocs, Inc., a leading provider of Internet bill presentment and payment software, today announced an agreement that will allow users of the INSCI COINSERV digital document repository to utilize the eDocs BillDirect system to enable Internet bill presentment and payment, as well as personalized HTML document assembly.

“Many of our largest biller customers have told us that they want to use their legacy billing data to drive the production of HTML format bills and statements,” said John Gillis, Chief Operating Officer of INSCI Corp. “The combination of INSCI's Forever View repository and the eDocs BillDirect system will allow our customers to transform the billing process into a competitive advantage by making it easy for consumers to review, analyze and pay their bills online.”

“INSCI is the leading provider of high volume, high speed document archiving and management solutions for AFP, Xerox, and line printer format documents,” noted Kevin E. Laracey, President of eDocs. “BillDirect will allow COINSERV users to offer their customers Internet bill presentment and payment while weaving targeted marketing messages into the web version of each customer's bill or statement.”

INSCI's software products allow large enterprises to transform static paper based documents into dynamic electronic commerce digital history files. INSCI's digital document repositories provide on-demand viewing, printing, Internet access, CD distribution and now the ability to re-purpose documents for interactive Internet presentment.

BillDirect allows billers and billing service bureaus to simplify the process of using legacy print and billing system extract files to create interactive Internet billing applications that reduce float, remittance processing, and customer service costs, while enabling up-sell and cross-sell at the biller's web-site. By using the output from the existing billing system–including AFP, Xerox, and line print files or billing system extract files–to drive the Internet presentment and payment process, BillDirect preserves the investment billers have made in existing billing systems, while enabling a biller to use its compelling content – the data on each customer's bill – to drive traffic to its web site.

BillDirect incorporates standard technologies such as HTTP, HTML, OFX, and TCP/IP, and creates highly personalized interactive bills, statements, and other documents that can incorporate HTML, Java, ActiveX controls, and other web content. BillDirect generated documents can be viewed using standard browsers and e-mail clients, and BillDirect generated bills feature a “one-click” payment option, that allows recipients to pay bills over the Internet using secure payment technology from CyberCash.
