EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 9, 1996 -- Xerox Corporation and INSCI Corp have announced a marketing alliance that will allow the two companies to offer customers complete solutions for fast, easy storage, retrieval and viewing of documents in client/server enterprise production printing environments.
The companies said the agreement responds to strong customer demand to access and display stored Xerox production print files in actual document formats -- not just as extracted data -- on desktop screens. The ability to streamline archiving and retrieval of such files for desktop viewing is particularly beneficial for customer service applications such as telephone inquiries that require rapid access to billings, invoices, statements and other documents containing customer-specific information.
Intended to offer complete print-view/archive solutions, the agreement provides for product referrals, selected joint sales and marketing activities, and technical support efforts to enhance the ability of Xerox production laser printing and software products and INSCI software to work together. The agreement covers the United States and Canada.
Intran Operations, a Xerox company with offices in Bloomington, Minn., is responsible for implementing the relationship with INSCI Corp, and for coordinating the integration and installation of customer solutions in conjunction with INSCI.
Focused on Xerox Print Services Manager (XPSM) 1.1 open, modular print server software and Xerox production laser printing systems operating at speeds of 50 or more pages per minute, including highlight color models, and on INSCI's COINSERV product line, the agreement will enable the companies to complement one another's products and market strengths.
XPSM 1.1 provides support for viewing/archiving applications, in addition to the existing suite of XPSM tools for managing Xerox production printing across enterprise-wide computing networks, which includes job scheduling, queuing and accounting. Also included under the agreement is the Xerox Intran family of modular software products for centralized creation, editing and management of document resources such as forms, fonts and graphics.
INSCI's COINSERV client/server document archive and retrieval software allows Xerox metacode-formatted documents to be indexed, compressed, archived and retrieved at very high speeds. INSCI software is paired with ElixiView software from Elixir Technologies Corp, which allows documents to be viewed with full fidelity on desktop screens. INSCI's recently acquired Image Express line of software for on-demand printing applications is also included under the agreement.
In addressing today's rising paper costs, environmental concerns and the growing imperative to improve productivity, our customers want solutions that can help reduce unnecessary printing, particularly of documents for internal purposes, said Richard O. Austin, vice president/general manager, Xerox High-End Systems Printing/Systems and Applications Software. The print-view/archive support of XPSM 1.1, together with software from INSCI, will allow businesses to quickly and easily store, retrieve, view and selectively print documents produced on Xerox high-speed laser printers, minimizing unnecessary paper use and helping streamline internal processes such as customer service and report review.
Said Dr. Ted Prince, chairman and chief executive officer, INSCI, Today's agreement is a milestone for INSCI Corp, because it demonstrates that our product line has the backing of the world's foremost printer manufacturer for providing their customers with leading-edge technology to facilitate access to production print files as strive to improve productivity by re-engineering business processes. INSCI is one of today's few companies with an integrated suite of software to address the needs of the rapidly growing electronic document management marketplace.
INSCI Corp, based in Westborough, Mass., is the leading supplier of Computer Output to Laser Disk (COLD) client/server document management systems software and integration services. INSCI's COINSERV software was called one of the industry's best of breed in a benchmark evaluation of COLD products conducted recently by Doculabs, a Chicago-based independent analyst firm.
Utilizing optical disk as well as compact disk (CD) storage technology to index, archive, retrieve and distribute computer-generated documents and scanned images, INSCI's COINSERV systems provide fast, cost-effective access to information that has typically been available only on paper, microfiche, microfilm, magnetic tape and direct access storage devices.
