Westborough, MA - September 3, 1996 - INSCI Corp today announced that it had signed a joint marketing agreement with Storage Technology Corporation (StorageTek). Under the agreement StorageTek will market INSCI's COINSERV product to its worldwide base of clients and prospects in conjunction with its new line of tape silo products.
With the worldwide move by organizations away from mainframe to client/server computing, StorageTekís focus is also supporting organizations in their client/server storage and archiving needs. Its new line of tape silo products provide class-leading massive storage capabilities while INSCI's client/server archiving product, COINSERV, enables organizations to take advantage of this product at a new record low price-point for archiving and storage. The two companies believe that a huge new market is opening up for massive tape-based data stores that use client/server rather than mainframe computers and software. The two companies believe that they have the leading combination in the industry to provide this capability.
StorageTek is a leader in the mass storage market for both disk drive and tape drives. Its products are being resold by IBM. INSCI is a leader in the archiving and retrieval market and its products are resold by Xerox Corporation, Unisys and Siemens Nixdorf Printing Systems.
The strategic relationship between Storage Technology Corporation and INSCI is targeted to support the larger users and will enable organizations to manage large digital data repositories created by the COINSERV systems in ways that were only previously available on mainframe systems. For the first time, large users will be able to get the advantages afforded by client/server architecture combined with the very large storage capacity associated with tape silos to store their companies' documents, said John Gillis, INSCI's Chief Operating Officer.
The COINSERV product is installed in customer sites which span all major vertical industry segments. The system is supported on many UNIX platforms and provides LAN\WAN connectivity to Windows and DOS PCs and UNIX terminals, providing a true client/server environment. COINSERV also provides native terminal connectivity to most mainframe and mini-computer systems. Over ???? StorageTek Tape Silos are currently in use.
