Powerful Document Management System based on the convenience of Microsoft Windows NT
BLUE BELL, PA, NOVEMBER 12, 1997 Unisys Corporation's Computer Systems Group (CSG) today announced the availability of INSCI Corp's COINSERV for Windows NT product on Unisys Aquanta and ClearPath enterprise servers.
INSCI, a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider (MCSP) and existing Unisys worldwide solutions partner, recently launched this new COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk) product following successful qualification and product testing. This high speed document archive and retrieval system expertly complements the market's leading UNIX-based Advanced COINSERV product by satisfying the exploding demand for Windows NT in key markets, including in the NT marketplace, financial, commercial and public sector.
INSCI's goal is to help large enterprises migrate from expensive analogpaper or microficherecord retention and access to less expensive and more efficient digital document repositories, notes Mason Grigsby, Partner, IMERGE Consulting. The Unisys launch of the COINSERV for Windows NT product will help INSCI to accelerate the achievement of that goal.
Unisys already dedicates sales and marketing resources to sell INSCI's UNIX-based Advanced COINSERV COLD system, imaging, automated CD distribution and Internet access products on the Unisys Aquanta and ClearPath family of departmental and enterprise servers.
The combination of Unisys Windows NT-based technology platforms and INSCI products meets the need for high performance, high capacity integrated computer output and document management systems for the enterprise, said Scott Clark, vice president and general manager, Business Solutions, Unisys Computer Systems Group.
The technology uses high-density, low-cost optical disks in a client/server environment based on the Windows NT server. Like its popular UNIX-based sibling, COINSERV for Windows NT provides a flexible archive, where formatted computer output pages, intelligent data streams, and scanned images are written to magnetic disks. Then hierarchical storage management seamlessly migrates less frequently used data from magnetic to less expensive optical disk for long-term storage. Once data is archived, clients can quickly access documents by specifying a combination of search criteria.
COINSERV for Windows NT is designed to maximize the processing power of Windows NT. By combining high performance archive and retrieval features with the ease and familiarity of Windows, COINSERV for Windows NT offers the power and quick learning curve that organizations need to effectively manage their documents.
Unisys provides the industry's largest family of Intel based products for client/server Microsoft Windows NT environments. With a full range of Pentium Pro based notebook, desktop and server products, the Unisys Aquanta family provides solutions from departmental and workgroup computing to worldwide enterprise applications.
In May, 1997, Unisys announced an expanded server product line that included the industry's first Windows NT Server platform scalable to 10 Pentium Pro processors, the Unisys Aquanta XR/6. In July, 1997, Unisys issued the first TPC-C results on its six way server, the Aquanta HS/6. In August, 1997, the company's Aquanta QR/6 SMP (four-way) enterprise server set new price/performance records on the industry standard TPC-C benchmark. At that time, the company also surpassed all records for price/performance on the Aquanta HR/6 six-way SMP enterprise server, and continues to set new performance records on the TPC-C benchmark. The Aquanta HS/6 (six-way) server produced the world's fastest Microsoft based transaction processing results, surpassing all industry records for Microsoft based servers.
